An indirect method for rail corrugation measurement based on numerical models and wavelet packet decomposition

Estimation of corrugation amplitude is an important but difficult point for indirect methods, to advance related research, method based on wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) and energy level wheel-rail noise developed. For this purpose, firstly, numerical models are proposed calculate under various statuses. Next, the WPD conducted noise, levels relevant nodes used as evaluation indicators amplitude. With treatment, with diverse wavelengths can be evaluated. Then, by using fitting Kriging interpolation model, nonlinear mapping from established. Finally, verified direct measurement, estimated amplitudes have average error 10.5 % compared directly measured results. Therefore, has great potential practical engineering, since it encouraging results in first attempt.
